The Digital Shelf Institute: Site Launch and Introduction

    Written by: Peter Crosby

There is no forum or community for manufacturers to learn from each other to win on the digital shelf. Until now.

Welcome to the new web home of The Digital Shelf Institute (DSI), the commerce community for brand manufacturers. At a time when the impact of digital on commerce is skyrocketing — and routes to markets are expanding — brand leaders must connect with an ecosystem of peers and experts.

The DSI, with its new digital home, will bring this community together. Please join us by clicking the “Become a Member” button above.

We are committed to providing you with content, conversations, and community to inform your commerce strategy for the next two, five, 10 years.

    We Unpack the Digital Shelf

The DSI started last October with a podcast: Unpacking the Digital Shelf. More than 12,000 downloads later, on Unpacking the Digital Shelf, we have been privileged to share conversations with the leaders of this movement.

Brand executives, tech leaders, consultants, agency leaders — the drivers of the digital shelf, generously sharing their experiences and advice to the community.

“Just listened to your podcast with Jason Goldberg, another home run from you and the DSI — already recommended it to two colleagues!”
    — Yves Le Breton, Ecommerce Consultant and Former Commerce Leader at Revlon and Estée Lauder

    We Deliver Original Research

We periodically dig deep into a topic of interest to our community.

Our inaugural report compiled data from hundreds of venture capital (VC) investments in direct-to-consumer (D2C) companies. It unpacks the scale and scope of these investments and highlights use cases demonstrating how investments are being used to upend entire categories in consumer packaged goods (CPGs).

Look for our next research piece in the fall, focused on the convergence of marketing and commerce and its impact on long-term relationships with consumers.

    Core to Our Community: Events

The movement really advances when we get in a room and hash things out.

Scheduled for May 2020 in Boston, the Digital Shelf Summit was slated to bring 800 people to Boston for a day of networking and knowledge sharing.

Then the world changed. We pivoted to present the Digital Shelf Virtual Summit, consisting of 15 live and recorded sessions focusing on the new urgency of nailing the digital shelf, and the strategies and advice from across the movement on how leaders should respond.

Tens of thousands of registrations, views, and shares. Most important: Conversations and connections that powered a community.

“I felt the discussion could have gone on another one to two hours. Thank you for providing the forum with such a valuable, timely perspective.”
    — Ken Kline, CEO of VHC Brands

The DSI Executive Forum Was Born

As we grew, a number of our executive members felt the need for more direct conversations with their peers.

The DSI Executive Forum is an independent, invitation-only, community platform for digital shelf executives at leading brands. Its mission is to drive innovation, education, and mentorship for the digital shelf while creating a strong peer group and community whose members support each other throughout their lives and careers.

It has now grown to more than 70 members.

"Really appreciate the sense of community ... I love building grounding relationships with a group of similar leaders who can help to make one another better and act as sounding boards."
    — Don Brett, Chief Digital Officer at NBG Home

    What’s Next for the DSI?

More — more of all of the above, plus this new blog to further illuminate the trends, strategies, and voices that are driving the transformation of commerce.

Right now, we are in the midst of our D2C Strategy Playbook Series. We are speaking with brand executives and thought leaders from the front lines of the direct-to-consumer (D2C) movement about the strategies that work and the core components you need to think about to succeed.

Most important, you are what’s next.

By adding your name to our list through the "Become a Member" button above, we'll keep you updated and engaged with the community and conversations of the DSI. Thanks for being part of our community.
